Chapter 522 has a long-standing commitment to helping the homeless, and especially homeless veterans. Currently our efforts are directed in three major areas.

We work with the Vet Center in St. Petersburg to assist homeless or veterans in need with financial stipends. We also provide food certificates to veterans during the Thanksgiving an Christmas seasons. They are all “John Doe” contributions, allowing the Vet Center staff to make the proper determinations and distribution.

We have provided clothing, batteries, and other personal hygiene items to homeless veterans living in the immediate area. In the past, we have worked with an organization called Pinellas Hope to assist homeless veterans with medical, legal, and VA health needs. We have also assisted veterans in obtaining their discharge papers so they could enroll in the VA systems.

We have made financial donations to several stand down activities in our area. Recently we have supported the stand downs coordinated by Pinellas County and Pasco County. These events have attracted large numbers of homeless persons. By all measures they have been highly successful.
