Social Events

While Chapter 522’s primary focus is that of a service organization, we do organize and conduct a limited number of social events for members and friends of our chapter. These events create new and lasting relationships which we feel provides a family atmosphere within our organization.

Our chapter has coordinated outing at local professional sporting events such as the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey games. In this instance, the Lightning staff offered our chapter special rates on tickets and even gave us a two for the price of one tickets. We had members of other local chapters attend the event as well. Our goal is to expand this program next year to include more local chapter members.

We have held Superbowl parties for those members interested in the NFL. We have also held fall picnics for those members who enjoy that type of fun and food. Both gatherings are “bring a covered dish” affairs so as to minimize expenditures for the chapter. These types of events are always open to potential new members, prior members of Chapter 522, members from other chapter and at-large members, and invited guests from our partnership organizations.

Our members also provide support to social events sponsored by other service organizations that we embrace, such as the Make-A-Difference casino night. Chapter 522 normally sponsors a table at this event and several of our members attend their functions each year.

We have other events that are a combination or work and social event. A good example of this type of activity are the weekend “fix-it” program where members get together to work on a home repair project for one of our  members who is a disabled veteran. We provide a needed service, we have some laughs, and maybe a simple meal together.
