The VVA national organization keeps less than half of your membership dues. The rest stays at the state and local level to support programs and services for veterans and their families. Membership includes a subscription to the award-winning newspaper, The VVA Veteran, bringing you updates on issues and legislation affecting veterans, as well as unique articles on the people, places, and history of the Vietnam experience.

VVA's goals are to promote and support the full range of issues important to Vietnam veterans, to create a new identity for this generation of veterans, and to change public perception of Vietnam veterans. The VVA currently has over 74,000 individual members , 48 state councils, and 617 local chapters.

Membership is open to U.S. armed force veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between February 28, 1961 and May 7, 1975, or in any duty location between August 5, 1964 and May 7, 1975.

AVVA was founded in 1999 and functions as an independent membership and service organization. The AVVA  continues to work with the VVA, striving to ensure that Vietnam veterans - as well as ALL veterans, attain the honor, respect, and benefits they deserve. The members provide expertise, support, and leadership to all VVA programs, legislative actions, community service, and social activities. The AVVA currently has over 8,000 members.

Membership in the Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America (AVVA) is open to everyone. Our members include spouses, parents, children, neighbors, and friends of Vietnam veterans. Veterans who served during the Vietnam era (February 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975) may join as non-voting members. AVVA members may join the Chapter 522 affiliate organization or one of more than 600 other chapters. They also have the option to join as an at-large member.
